An exciting opportunity to explore collaborative choreography and improvisation to live music!

This seven week class series will focus on creating a group belly dance performance piece for presentation at a performance in July in Portland, Maine. Through the use of belly dance and theatrical exercises, students will learn to co-create choreography, increase their comfort level with improvisation and gain experiential knowledge of live music performance.  Each class will be accompanied by live music.

Students must have taken at least one class session of belly dance before registering for this class.  Students should be able to attend at least six of the seven classes and must be available for the performance on Wednesday, July 27, 6:00 - 8:00pm

The class size is limited to ten dancers. This is a full session series, no drop-ins please.  Due the limitation on class size, pre-registration is strongly encouraged!

What to bring:

Comfortable clothing that allows for a freedom of movement, a notebook & pen, water bottle and a desire to collaborate.  If you wish to wear dance shoes please make sure they have only been used indoors.

What is Theatrical Belly Dance?

Theatrical belly dance blends the emotion, drama and storytelling of the theater with the beautifully passionate and expressive art of belly dance. By connecting emotion with movement through a combination of dance drills and improvisational theater exercises the dancer discovers, and learns to express, their creative voice.
